Soul Surfer

“I remember most clearly what the Kauai paramedic said to me: He spoke softly and held my hand as we were pulling out of the Tunnels parking lot. He whispered in my ear ‘God will never leave you or forsake you.’ He was right.”

I have just finished reading a new book called Soul Surfer by Bethany Hamilton. It is an amazing book. From the beginning, it has changed my relationship with God and my faith in Him.

As I’ve been reading this book, it has expanded my trust with God as well.

This girl just got her arm bitten off by a shark and she is still alive. (Ah, big points there.) God kept her alive through and after the attack. God never left her or forsake her. He didn’t say, “Oh… You have one arm. Forget you.” If God never left her because of her abilities or because she decided to surf that day or because she wore a certain watch that might of attracted the shark, I know that He will never leave me if I cheat on a test or hit my sister and ask for forgiveness. He will always be there and will never leave me no matter what I do.

“My mom was crushed. All the work and effort we were putting into my future as a pro seemed to her at that moment to be washed away. Still, in spite of her tears and heartbreak, she had the presence of mind to turn on a worship CD and sing along with it. Through her tears and pain, she praised God and told Him that in spite of everything, He was in control. I was in His hands.”

What if something terrible happen to you or someone close? How would you react? What would you do?

Say a serious situation just happened. You always need to stop and remember that no matter what God is in control. Maybe your Mom is in the hospital because she fell and got seriously injured. You always need to pray. Pray that she will heal, pray for the family, pray for wisdom for the doctors, pray for you, just pray. But always remember that God is in control.

Bethany Hamilton is an amazing role model and Christian. She is someone you can look up to and count on. I’ve always wanted to be like her. Not my arm being bitten off, but how she acts. She is so calm and trustworthy and is a great Christian. She showed me through her book that God is God and He always has a plan. And that God will NEVER leave you, nor forsake you.

Good points! Building a relationship with the Lord during the good times is what focuses us on His Presence in difficult times. People may leave or disappoint; the Lord never will. And prayer is always the right response! Good reminders for us all! Thanks!
